Fishing & River Floats

FISHING & RIVER FLOATS

Montana offers some of the finest wild trout fishing in the lower 48. Rainbow, Brown, and our beloved Yellowstone Cutthroat, locally called “native” trout, are found in abundance throughout western Montana. I am privileged to make my home on the banks of the Yellowstone River, the last undammed major river in the contiguous United States. The Yellowstone flows right through the center of Livingston, Montana, the home base of Lone Wolf Guide Service.

Catch of the day!

The Yellowstone River is classified “Blue-Ribbon” for 50 miles downstream from where it leaves Yellowstone Park. It flows northward, winding through some of the most picturesque mountain scenery found anywhere in North America. Famous fly fishermen from the past have left their mark on the river.

We offer day trips on the Yellowstone for all species of fish, or scenic float trips to take in the breathtaking beauty of Paradise Valley. If you would prefer a multi-day package, we will arrange lodging at a local establishment. We will meet each day at a pre-determined location and leave from there to a selected section of the river. The time of the year will determine patterns etc. and we will assist you with a suggested list that can be tweaked once you arrive. 5-weight or 6-weight fly rods with the floating line are generally good choices. You should bring personal items such as a jacket, rain gear, polarized sunglasses, a hat, and sunblock. Lunch is provided daily.

We can also stop to get you the necessary Montana fishing license, but since that takes up valuable fishing time so we suggest you get your license before the day(s) you plan to fish. You can purchase a license online also.

In the event that in climate weather “muddies” the stream, Paradise Valley is home to some of the finest spring creek fishing found anywhere. “Match the hatch” is the only way to be successful on the spring creeks and many fly fishermen consider the spring creek the true test of fly fishing prowess. If you prefer a day or two on the spring creeks, we will make the necessary arrangements before you arrive.

In addition to the Yellowstone River, we offer trout fishing on the Boulder, Bighorn, and many other classic Montana trout streams. Give us a call to discuss the endless possibilities that Montana offers to the visiting trout fishermen. We can accommodate large groups and families with 2 fishermen maximum per boat. If needed, we will arrange additional boats to accommodate larger groups.

Blue-Ribbon trout fishing is a fantastic way to compliment your western vacation. The scenery, wildlife, and, of course, the fishing brings clients from all over the world. Let us know what you desire and we will strive to make your trip memorable.
